CORMIER, RHÉAL - 1945 - 2011 - Rhéal Cormier, 66 of Saint-Antoine passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Dr Georges L Dumont Hospital, Moncton on Sunday, September 4th, 2011. He was married to Simone (Daigle) Cormier. Born in Saint-Antoine on April 22nd, 1945 he was the son of the late Octave and the late Marie (Richard) Cormier. Rheal was employed by the NB Department of Transport for 37 years as an Engineering Technician and a Bridge Superintendent until his retirement in December 2000. Lionism was his passion. Lions Club since 1971, in 1983 he occupied the position of District Governor of NB and PEI; in 1984, the position of Council Chair, regrouping the Lions Clubs of the Atlantic Provinces and the State of Maine; in 1986, he was appointed as the Director from NB on the Lions Foundation of Canada, a position which he held until 1991; and was elected in 1991-92 as Chairman of the Lions Foundation of Canada, regrouping the 55,000 Lions of Canada. He was a Life Member of Lions Clubs International and of the Lions Foundation of Canada, as well as a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He loved politics and was involved in municipal politics for sixteen years with the Village of Saint-Antoine as a Councilor, Deputy Mayor and Mayor from 1980 to 1983. Rhéal will be sadly missed by his wife Simone; his two children, Sylvie Cormier of Riverview, Mario (Mélanie) of Saint-Jacques and their two children, Maxime and Jade; one step-son Denis LeBlanc (Sylvie) of Dieppe and their two children, Céline and Alexi. He also leaves to mourn one sister, Bernice Cormier-Marcoux and two brothers, Camille (Aline) and Jean-Claude (Gisèle) of Dieppe, and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by one brother Francois (Franky).
Visitations will be held at the Saint-Antoine l'Ermite Roman Catholic Church Slumber Room, Saint-Antoine on Monday, September 5th, 2011 from 7 to 9 and on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 5:30 to 6:45 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at the Saint-Antoine Church on Tuesday,
September 6, 2011 at 7:00 pm with
