It is with sadness and sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Eunice (Bagnell) Laughlin on Sept. 4, 2011, at Seaview Manor where she resided the past two years.
Jean was born in Sydney, April 10, 1924, to the late Margaret and Harry Bagnell.
In June 1944, she married the love of her life, Ernest ‘Locker’ Laughlin and they resided in Point Edward for their entire married life. They shared many wonderful years together travelling and socializing with their many friends. Jean was an avid card player and enjoyed countless games of tarabish and 45s.
Jean was the last surviving member of her immediate family. ‘Locker’ passed away in March 2004, three months shy of their 60th wedding anniversary. She was also predeceased by her parents and siblings, Gladys, Marie, Irene, June, Harry, John D. and Willard. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Doug Laughlin of Ajax, Ont.; and by several nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, Sandra Pearson, Debbie McIntyre, Wendy Gillis and Michelle Crowe who lovingly tended to her needs the past several years.
At her request, there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sydney Memorial Chapel. Interment will be held at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. An open house to receive family and friends will be held from 2-4 p.m. the same day at Jean’s former residence, 2491 Point Edward Hwy. All are welcome to share memories of her at that time.
Jean’s family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of ground floor, Seaview Manor, for the excellent care and concern shown to her over the past two years.
Donations in Jean’s memory may be made to Seaview Manor, the Alzheimer’s Society or the charity of one’s choice.
Condolences may be sent to the family at www.sydneymemorialchapel.ca.
