Roddie passed away peacefully in his dad’s loving arms on Friday morning, Oct. 9, 2009.
Born in Florence, he was the son of Roddie Gillis and Shaunna LeBlanc. He was a member of St. Stephen’s parish, Florence.
Roddie was a student at NSCC, Marconi Campus and a recent graduate of Memorial High School’s electrical program. He was very active in minor hockey on the Northside, playing with various teams for 12 years. He also played in Sydney Mines Little League and was an avid snowboarder.
Roddie’s easy going and compassionate personality will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his dad, Roddie, with whom he resided; his mom, Shaunna; and his sister and best friend, Molly. He is also survived by his grandparents, Roddie and Clara Gillis and Shirley LeBlanc of Florence; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his grandfather, Ben LeBlanc and his two special great-grandmothers, Veronica Gillis and Molly Stephenson.
Visitation for Roddie Gillis was held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines. His funeral mass will be celebrated today (Tuesday) at 11 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Florence with Fr. Thomas John officiating.
Donations may be made in memory of Roddie to Memorial High School’s Scholarship Fund for a graduate of its electrical program.
