Donald Norman Gillis

1941-2011
Donald Norman Gillis passed away peacefully at home, with family by his side, on Tuesday, September 6, 2011, after a short, but courageous, battle with cancer.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late A. Wilfred and Kathleen (MacAulay) Gillis. Don was a graduate of the New England Institute of Anatomy. After a short career as a funeral director in New Brunswick, Don spent many years in the food industry with Kraft General Foods and more recently, with Crossmark.
Don is survived by his brothers, David (Eva), Edmonton; Kenneth (Grace), Charlottetown; Lorne (Wanda), Coxheath; and Wilfred (Bev), Edmonton; and his sister-in-law, Cherie, Coxheath. He is also survived by his special nieces and nephews who will always lovingly remember “Uncle Don”. Besides his parents, Don was predeceased by his brother Gordon in 2005.
Visitation will take place in Dartmouth Funeral Home, Queen St., Dartmouth, N.S., on Thursday, September 8, 2011, from 7-9 p.m. There will also be a visitation at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Friday, September 9, 2011, from 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Trinity United Church on Saturday, 2 p.m., with Rev. Jackie MacDonald officiating. Interment in the family plot at Eastmount Cemetery.
