Bowie, Girda Jordan: It is with loving memories we announce the passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Girda Jordan Bowie, age 94, at Cole Harbour on Wednesday, September 7, 2011. Born in Central North River, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Judith (Jordan) MacRae. She married Bill in 1943 and they resided and raised their family in Bible Hill. Girda remained in the family home following Bill’s passing in 1996 until she moved to her daughter’s at age 91. She was a member of St. David’s United Church, a member of the Dorcas Unit and a life member of the U.C.W. She worked part-time as a sales clerk for many years. She enjoyed playing cards, quilting and traveling. We are thankful to have enjoyed so many years of Girda’s unconditional love and her trusted opinions, wisdom and guidance. She is survived by daughter, Heather (Ches), Cole Harbour; son, Michael Kevin (Chiu), Kitchener, ON; daughter-in-law, Patty (Hugh), Halifax; grandchildren, Mark, Elizabeth and Layton; sisters-in-law, Florence Bowie, Katherine Cleary and Marjorie Armsworthy; brother-in-law, Basil Bowie; many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by son, Bill Jr.; sisters, Marion MacRae, infant MacRae, Beth (Hartley) MacCallum; Roberta (Harry) MacKay. Also predeceased by her husbands brothers, Leo, Kenneth; sisters, Edith, Marjorie, Agatha. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street Truro, where Girda’s family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9pm Saturday, September 10, and where funeral service will be held 2pm on Sunday, September 11, Rev. Donna Lawrence officiating. Reception to follow in the funeral home. Interment will then be held in the Bible Hill Cemetery. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Girda’s memory may be made to the Bible Hill Cemetery, Warren Drive Bible Hill, NS or to a charity of your choice.
