Harold Murrell
Harold Garfield Murrell, 85, passed away peacefully on Sept. 8, 2011 at Camp Hill Veterans Unit, Halifax.
Born on Sept. 14, 1925 in Stellarton, to parents Thomas and Margaret (Matheson).
Hal was a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces and was stationed in Esquimalt, BC until the end of WWII. He joined the services again in 1954 and was stationed in Gagetown, NB. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28, Stellarton for many years and was inducted into the Pictou County Sports Hall of Fame for his success in baseball as a pitcher and third baseman.
He was predeceased by parents Thomas and Margaret, wife Jean (Flynn), sisters: Ruth Whidden, Edna MacKay, and Phoebe (at birth), and brother Clayton.
He is survived by daughters Linda Murray (John), Moncton, Peggy, Halifax and Pam (Craig) Walsh, Fort Smith, NWT and son Hal (Eva), Union Center; sisters Joyce MacNeil (Abercrombie), Lorna MacDonald, Stellarton, Rhoda Willan (Charlie), Moncton, and brother Gary, Stellarton; three grand-daughters, three grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, Stellarton. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday from Sharon St. John United Church, Stellarton with Rev. John Roy officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery. A reception will follow at Branch #28 Royal Canadian Legion, Stellarton.
