It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Delores Burton on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at the An Cala Unit, Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late George and Annie Mae (Lively) Moffatt.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Delores was the owner and operator of Burton’s Dairy on Grand Lake Road for many years. Later, she was employed as a bartender for the Irish Club until her retirement.
She was a member of the Irish Benevolent Society. Delores was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her, she was very proud of her children and enjoyed spending time with them.
Delores is survived by her children, Melvin (Donna), Darlene Tucker (Kevin), Anna (Darrell) Walters, Noel (Darren) Reid and Tanya (David) Melski, all of Sydney; her 11 precious grandchildren, Justin, Michelle, Alicia, Melvin, Leeanne, Natasha, Annette, Darrell, Caitlyn, Hannah and Mitchel, her pride and joy her eight great-grandchildren, Jack, Joshua, Cameron, Brett, Keegan, Mason, Brooke and James. She is also survived by special nieces, Lucina and Tracy; nephew, Barry as well as other nieces and nephews. Delores leaves behind her dear friends, Sam, Mrs. Mullaly, Theresa, Catherine and Debbie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Melvin Burton, two grandsons, Jason and Andrew, sister, Avril Walsh, brother, George Moffatt.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to follow in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
