Joyce Eileen (Wilcox) Tavener, 72, Halifax passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Northwood Center with her loving children by her side.
Born in Louisbourg, she is the daughter of Daniel Wilcox and the late Jennie Wilcox. Joyce graduated from Louisbourg High School and Sydney City Hospital School of Nursing. Until retirement Joyce spent most of her nursing career as a nurse manager working at Abbie Lane Hospital in Halifax. She loved her time at the Abbie working with patients and especially the wonderful staff.
After retirement her love of nursing continued on and she spent 11 years at Addiction Services. Joyce loved to travel, play bridge, bowl and spend time with family and friends especially doting on her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Kimberley Noel; son, Drew; precious grandchildren, Ian and Erin; brother, Dan (Una); and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Frederick.
Cremation has taken place with no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at the Bedford Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Ida Whitehouse officiating, reception to follow. Private family burial will follow at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Lower Sackville.
Joyce will be truly missed by her family and friends and will forever be remembered for her infectious laugh. The family would like to thank Sara and the staff on 2 Center, the ALS Society and the support of her many friends.
