It is with sadness we announce the passing of Stewart Munroe on Sunday, October 11, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Stewart was born May 3, 1940, on the family farm in Chamberlain. He started his working career in construction with Barber Construction and later with W.F. Botkin Construction. In 1962, he married his sweetheart Patricia Cantelon; and in 1968, with four children in tow, Pat and Stewart took over the family farm. Their fifth child joined the bunch in 1973. Stewart was well known throughout the Chamberlain district serving as a councilor with the R.M. of Craik for over 25 years, as well his Custom Loader and Custom Hay Grinding businesses. Stewart could often be found in his shop where he excelled at fabricating equipment; it was amazing what he could build with a piece of metal and his welder. Stewart and his wife Patricia stayed on the family farm until 2001 at which time they sold the farm and moved in to Moose Jaw. Stewart enjoyed fishing and hunting; he loved to tell stories and became a regular on ‘coffee row’ at the mall. He enjoyed the opportunity to attend any one of his grandchildren’s sporting events and kept in close contact to get the latest update on what each of the grandchildren were doing. Stewart is survived by his loving wife Patricia, four sons Larry (Val) of Moose Jaw; Richard of Wetaskawin, AB; Robert (Theresa) and Jason (Colette) of Mossbank, SK and one daughter Richel (Glen) Gnazdowsky of Rothesay, NB; two sisters Thelma Botkin of Regina, SK and Doris (Cleve) Bennett of Chamberlain, SK; two brothers-in-law Doug (Janet) Cantelon of Pilot Butte, SK and Fred (Darlene) Johnson of Craik, SK; as well as numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Stewart was predeceased by his parents, John Henry Munroe and Vera Pearl Howell and step-father Samuel Howell. The Funeral Service will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Friday October 16, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will follow at the Chamberlain Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday evening, 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. In living memory of Stewart, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W.
