WARK - Angelique Beatrice (nee Montroy), 92 years , of Val Marie, SK and formerly of Minto, MB passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, at the Shaunavon Hospital and Care Centre at Shaunavon, SK. Beatrice was born at Neelin, MB on Sept. 24, 1918 to Ramsay and Lily Montroy, the second youngest of 6 children. She enjoyed playing music with her brothers and sisters, playing the guitar and chording on the organ. Mom loved the old cowboy songs, Wilf Carter being her favourite. She received her education at Connaught School, walking 3 miles to light the fires each morning. She worked for various families in the Neelin area, helping with housework and chores. “At home, I was the chore girl, milking 9 cows, but I liked working outside.” In 1940, Beatrice came to Minto to work for the Fred Wark family, where she met Jim. They were married on Feb. 5, 1941. They lived and farmed 2 miles south of Minto until moving to town in 1961. The farm was where Beatrice was most happy. “Hard work never hurt anybody,” she would say. She always grew a large garden, and enjoyed baking bread, buns, and biscuits, much of which she gave away. After Dad passed away, Mom moved out West to Val Marie in 1991 to be closer to her family, enjoying the view from her suite where she could see the deer and horses grazing the hayfield. Mom always walked at a brisk pace. Mom had keen interest in sports, watching TSN, even the Golf channel. She kept up with world news and weather, watching news from Toronto to Victoria, enjoyed Wheel of Fortune, doing word searches and Jumble word puzzles. There wasn’t anything more important to Mom than her family. They always came first. Her children and grandchildren were a great source of pride, visits from nieces and nephews and friends from “back home” made her most happy. Anyone coming to visit usually never left empty-handed or hungry. Garry and Jim took Mom and Dad to see the mountains, B.C., and even Las Vegas. She walked the golf course with Cal and even drove his golf cart. She took a bus trip to Nashville to the Grand Ole Opry which was a highlight for her. She kept a souvenir from everywhere – notepads from motels, placemats, Keno pencils. Mom was a kind and gentle soul who always thought of others first, never complained or wanted anything for herself. Mom was always thankful for any kindness shown to her. “Don’t forget your manners,” she would say. “Share what you have, and help others. You can never do too much. You might need help someday yourself.” Mom was predeceased by her father Ramsay in 1956, mother Lily in 1971, two sisters, Evelyn Stephens in 1945, Gertie McKay in 2008, three brothers, Emil in 1944, Fred in 1973, and Oliver in 1990, husband Jim on Feb. 24th, 1981, son Garry on May 21, 2009, and daughter-in-law Beatrice on Aug. 8, 2003.
