MacDONALD, Barbra Amelia “Betty” — 68, Garlands Crossing, Hants Co. Betty has got her wings! After a lengthy battle with declining health, we, the family, regret to announce her passing on September 2, 2011. Born February 18, 1943, Betty grew up in Lower Vaughan, attending a two-room school house, and then went on to Windsor Academy and Windsor Regional High School. She graduated from Kay Anslow Secretarial School and moved on to graduate in the class of ‘65 from the P.M.H. The night after graduation she married the love of her life, Max. They left immediately for Montreal where she became head nurse on the night shift at Montreal Children's Hospital. In 1976 they moved “back home” where she continued nursing at Hants Community Hospital. She canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for many years, and she worked a number of years for the Windsor Food Bank. Her love of animals showed through with giving a home to many different stray cats and feeding the raccoons which got her into hot water many times with the neighbors. She is survived by son, Harold, Montana; granddaughter, Corina and her mother, Lynn Delsnet; special “aunt”, Mamie Coffill, Windsor; “brother”, Norman (Carol) Hart; “sister” and forever friend, Bernice (Karl) Levy, Sherwood; foster son and daughter-in-law, John and Mary Ann Michalski and their children, Brian and Laura; special friends, Larry Hart, Dorothy MacDonald and Dorothy Hart; sisters-in-law, Florence, Gladys, Marjorie and Mary; brothers-in-law, Gary and Bruce MacDonald. Betty was predeceased by husband, Max (1997); biological mother, Elsie Frost; foster mother, Mona Joudrey; “brother” Lawrence (Sherry) Joudrey, Marlboro, Mass. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, September 7. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 8, in St. Thomas Anglican Church, Three Mile Plains, Rev. Tom Henderson officiating. Burial was held in Ste. Croix Cemetery, Ste. Croix, followed by a reception in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Betty may be made to the Hants County SPCA, Windsor and District Food Bank, St. Thomas Anglican Church or a charity of one’s choice.
