It is with deep sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Kevin Paul Hennessy, 55, of New Waterford on Sept. 12, 2011, at New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he is the son of Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ and Felicitas ‘Phil’ (MacNeil) Hennessy.
Kevin was a member of the former St. Joseph Parish, New Victoria, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. He was a miner for 23 years working at Lingan, Phalen and Prince Mines and for the past nine years he was employed with Point Aconi Power Plant.
Kevin was a hard working family man and considered a perfectionist to all who knew him. He made his own fiddle which he loved to play in his spare time. Kevin was also an avid horseshoe player and loved spending time in his garage fixing anything he could get his hands on.
Surviving are his wife, Laura (Lanceleve); children, Audrey (Sheldon) Gouthro, Tatamagouche, Linda Hennessy, New Waterford, Alanna Hennessy and Kevin Hennessy, both at home; brothers, Ronnie Hennessy (Mary), Scotchtown, Gerald Hennessy, Mira, Vernon Hennessy, Windsor, Ont., James (Cathy) Hennessy, Mira, John (Monique) Hennessy, Scotchtown; sisters, Ann Head, New Waterford, Lois (Wayne) Gallant, Glace Bay, Karen Mossop, Edmonton; grandchildren, Daniel, Jacob, Laura, Nathan, Jordan, Jessika, Jonathan; godmother, Arlene Gapastione; numerous neices and nephews; special pet, Lulu.
Kevin was predeceased by his sister, Donna MacLeod.
Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 16 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass to celebrate Kevin’s life will take place Saturday, Sept. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Parich Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Victor Ozoufuanya officiating. Cremation will follow with burial in Mount Carmel Cemetery at a later date. A luncheon will be held at the Carmel Centre immediately following the funeral mass.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
