Mary Pond

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, Mary Josephine Pond, on Monday, Sept.12, 2011, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
Mary was the eldest daughter of James and Annie Pushie of Glace Bay. Mary was married to her husband David R. Pond for a fulfilled 67 years. She was very devoted to family and loved having her family around her. She greatly enjoyed the many open houses that were held at her residence, sharing wonderful memories with family, friends and neighbours from far and wide.
Mary spent many summers with her husband and small children, camping and her own parents, in Whycocomagh. Later she enjoyed many years Rv-ing with her husband and adult children. Mary enjoyed her time at the bungalow in Mira, travelling across Canada and U.S.A., abroad to Europe, going on cruises and bus tours with family and friends.
Mary leaves behind to mourn her passing, sons, Allister, Glace Bay, (Phyllis), Manitoba, Donald (Mariette), Reserve Mines; daughters, Doreen (James) Marshall, Dartmouth, Phyllis (Gerald) Veinott, New Minas, Geneva, Sydney, Faye, Glace Bay, and Ruth (her very cherished special one), Glace Bay. Mary is also survived by seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and sisters, Annie Ewanishan, Alberta, Marguerite Jobe, Glace Bay; and sister-in-law, Ester Pond, Port Hood.
Mary was predeceased by parents, James and Annie Pushie, one son in infancy, husband, David R. Pond (2002), brother, Alex Pushie, B.C., sister, Audrey Parsons, Glace Bay.
An adherent of St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Mary enjoyed the friendships of ministers and congregational members over the years.
Visitation for Mary will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service Sunday at 3 p.m. in St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shirley Murdock officiating. Reception to follow. Private family burial will take place at a later date.
Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church Building Fund or a charity of one’s choice.
