Reg Battist

Reginald MacKay Battist, 93 of Sundridge, Pictou County, passed away peacefully in his home on September 13, 2011 surrounded by family.
Born on October 29, 1917 in Sundridge, he was a son of the late Clifford and Margaret (MacKay) Battist.
Living his entire life in Sundridge, he was very blessed. As a man of many talents and quick wit, he earned his living off the land by farming, welding and trucking. He owned and operated his own small lumber mill, and in his spare time enjoyed gardening and playing his fiddle music.
Family was a big part of his life and he is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Dolina Catherine (Munroe); his children, Gerald (Marjorie), Janette (Roland) Sears, Donnie (Donna); seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul) MacLennan, Brandon (Nicole) Battist, Rebecca (Billy) Battist-Rhude, Ellen (Dale) Williams, Laura Sears, Nadine and Vanessa Battist, and seven great grandchildren: Shelby, Tyler, Justin, Ashton, Isolde, Ronan, and Emily; as well as sisters-in-law, Gladys Battist, Mary (Billy) Forbes, and brother-in-law, John Munroe.
He was predeceased by his brothers and their wives, Orville “Bob” (Sadie), Henry (Lois), a brother Stanley and a brother Gerald who had died in infancy, as well as brother-in-law, Donald (Bertha) Munroe and sister-in-law, Josephine Munroe.
Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral service will take place 2 p.m. Saturday from Lyons Brook United Church, with Rev. Sheila Redden-Smith officiating. Burial will follow the service in the West Branch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
