David Brummond

Born In: Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Canada
Born: November 9th, 1926

Passed in: Canada
Passed on: July 6th, 2011

Dave was born to parents Ernest and Ella Brummond on the family farm near Kamsack Saskatchewan. He was the 5th of
7 children. As a young adult, looking for new adventure, he went west to the Peace River country. He had no definite plan, and apparently didn’t need one. He may have planned to return until, one night at a country dance, the stars collided. He spotted a young lady, Marie Lindgren…she had no idea what was about to hit her.
They were married in 1957, and with a strong focus on creating a nurturing home, they settled in to raise a family. Kenneth was born in 1958, Sandra in 1959, Darrell in 1960, and Trevor in 1967.
Their life together was full of good times. Their favourite shared passion was camping; which they did often, with the whole family, a group of friends, or just the two of them.
Dave always had a joke to tell, he often had a hard time getting the punch line out, he was laughing too hard. This didn’t seem to matter, for Dave; it was about sharing a laugh.
We kids have many great memories of the house Dad built. He never had to say it; we always knew where home was, and that dad built the doors to only swing one way, “in”. We boomeranged back many times.
As grandchildren started arriving, Dad had a whole new team – 9 of them.
He was their biggest fan, and they loved him dearly. He would sit through anything for a glimpse of his grandchildren, and while he may have preferred 3 periods of hockey over 3 acts of a ballet performance, he never let on. They have many great memories of Grandpa sitting by the campfire, relaxing in his big chair, remote in hand, or wearing his white Tilley hat. They will miss his big Grandpa hugs.
Dave worked as an oil refinery operator until he retired, then he joined the Senior Citizens Association, where he said the real work began.
Dave loved working for and with the Seniors Association. He met many good friends there. He was President of the Association for a number of years and saw many projects through from start to finish.
He and Marie played and promoted their sport of Floor Curling both locally and throughout BC and Alberta. They made many trips, with a convoy of motor homes full of friends and fellow athletes, to participate in tournaments, including the BC Seniors Games.
Dave and Marie discovered they had time to dance again, play, and do whatever they wanted, no schedule and with a group of like minded friends. They really considered these the golden years.
Dave passed away peacefully at his home, with his family. He made us all smile right up until the end. We will hold our memories of his love and laughter in our hearts forever.
The family would like to thank all who made this difficult time easier, by way of phone calls, visits, goodies, and just by being there for us. A Celebration of Life service was held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the South Peace Senior Citizen’s Hall, Dawson Creek, British Columbia
