Jim (James) Russell Dunkley, born Sept. 15, 1920, passed away peacefully Aug. 29, 2011, at home in Victoria, B.C., after a brief illness. He was predeceased in March, 2011, by Alison, his wife of 61 years, and by their first son Stephen in 1972. Surviving are sons, John (Evelyn) of Victoria, B.C.; David (Candace) of Squamish, B.C.; Jim (Sandra) of Nanaimo, B.C.; and nine grandchildren. Jim was born and raised in Weymouth. He joined the army in 1939 and served with an anti-tank battalion before transferring to the Carleton and York Regiment where he was a member of ‘The Reckless Squad’. Jim served in Sicily, mainland Italy, France, and Holland. While living in Montreal and Richmond Hill, Ont., Jim worked for Pitfield, MacKay, Ross for close to 30 years. In 1976, he and Alison moved to Bedford, N.S., before finally settling in Victoria in the mid-1980s to be closer to the boys and their families. Jim was an avid sailor, reader, and all round gadget guy. He loved the Sissiboo River and Bay of Fundy. Condolences can be sent to cd2611@telus.net
