NEWCOMB, Judith Dianne “Judy” — 61, of Windsor, Hants Co., passed away peacefully Sunday, September 11, 2011, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a 10-month battle with cancer. Born in Windsor, she was the daughter of Olive (Barkhouse) Ripley and the late Carl Ripley. Judy worked for the Hants-Kings Business Development Centre. Besides her father, she was predeceased by her first husband, Richard Smith; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Violet (Hodgedon) Smith. Besides her mother, Judy is survived by her husband, Robert “Bob” Newcomb; son, O.J. Smith; step-daughters, Krystin and Courtenay Newcomb; sister, Beckie Cochrane (Mark Forsythe); brother, Greg Ripley; father and mother-in-law, Laurie and Barbara (West) Newcomb; sister-in-law, Linda (Ernie) Copas-Smith; brother-in-law, Brian Cochrane; nephews, John Copas and Trenton Fraser; niece, Adele Copas; great-nephews, Jacob Hughes and Jesse Harvey; as well as other extended family members. Arrangements for cremation were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., PO Box 981, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (902-798-8317), where the family received visitors Tuesday, September 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, in Lohnes-DeMont Funeral Service Chapel, Rev. Dr. John Bartol officiating, with a reception following in the funeral home's Elmcroft Reception Centre. Burial will take place at a later date. The family would like to say a special thank you to Dr. Cathryn Smith, Heather Caldwell and Crystal Rosta. Also, they would like to express their greatest appreciation to the staff of the Capital Health District with particular gratitude to Dr. Scot Bagnell, Dr. Lori Wood and Bev Lyttle.
