Clara Macdonald, 96, of Glades Lodge, Halifax, passed away on April 20, 2011.
Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Margaret Hearn.
Clara grew up in Sydney, where she attended Holy Angels High School, married and began her family. She moved to Sydney Mines and lived there for more than 10 years, where she was an active member of the community. Clara attended Immaculate Conception Church, was president of the CWL, a member of the curling club and throughout her life, was an avid bridge player. She and her family moved back to Sydney to pursue business opportunities and part of her career in Sydney was spent as the proprietor of the Chez Leon Salon. In 2005, she moved to Halifax to live with her daughter, Hilda until her health changed and it was necessary to move into Glades Lodge. Until her move to Halifax, she maintained many of her friendships from Sydney Mines.
Surviving are her children, Charmaine Macquarrie, Calgary, Tim Macdonald, Calgary and Hilda Cook, Halifax; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, RJ ‘Dick’ Macdonald; daughter, Betsy Bendelier and son, Richard Macdonald.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Church on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at 10 a.m., with Rev. James Oliver officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery.
