It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mary Jane (Bagnell) MacDonald on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011.
Born April 2, 1918, she lived most of her life in Fourchu, Cape Breton, and the last three years was a resident in Northwood Manor, Halifax.
She was the daughter of Jim R. Bagnell and Sarah Munroe of Gabarus.
Mary was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was her life. Our home was where everyone gathered, and all were so welcomed with Mom’s home baking and cooking and quiet, gentle spirit. She operated the North Fourchu Post Office, in our home, for many years and Mom was a member of Fourchu United Church.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Alvin H. MacDonald; siblings, Lexie, Patience, Joseph and Archie.
Mom is survived by her son, William ‘Bill’ (Pauline); daughters, Carol (Harvey) Freeman and Hazel (Ron) Locke; seven grandchildren, Brent and Jason Locke, Mark and Keith Freeman, Amanda, Adam and Ashley MacDonald; 10 great-grandchildren, Jake, Sam, Sophie, Connor, Gage, Alexa, Grace, Duncan, Madeleine, Roan; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will take place in Fourchu United Church on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., with a funeral service held at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Interment in Little Hill Cemetery, Fourchu.
