HEALY, Gwenlyn May (Fraser) - 91 of Kentville, Nova Scotia passed away Friday, September 16, 2011, following a short hospital stay. A twin, born in Chipman, New Brunswick in 1920, she was the daughter of the late Wilson and Jennie (Fleming) Fraser. She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert Wesley Healy, MD, whom she met while both were stationed at the army base in Sussex, New Brunswick. A graduate of the Saint John General Hospital School of Nursing, as an empty nester she returned to nursing at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium in 1975 where she remained until her retirement. A wonderful mother and nurse, she had a soft spot for animals. Renowned as a cook, she was, as well, a quilter, a competitive bridge player, a gardener, a great reader and a volunteer who gave generously of her time and talents. She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth (Peter) Clarke, Toronto, Ontario; three sons, Robert (Anna), Halifax; Stephen (Patti), Kentville; Paul (Martha), Elmsdale; one sister, Evelyn Graham, Fredericton, New Brunswick; fourteen grandchildren, Robert, Matthew, Jacqueline, Jennifer, Jessica, Stephen, Adam, Tristan, Kathleen, Maggie, Danielle, Alexander, Carly and Katherine; five great grandchildren, Paige, Hannah, Sutton, Natalie and Emma; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by in-laws Janet Robb, Cecelia Fraser, Clair Healy and Everett (Marge) Healy. Besides her husband, Robert “Bob”, she was predeceased by a sister, Barbara and two brothers, Andrew and Garfield and her step mother Agnes Wellwood. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, where the funeral service, followed by a reception, was held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, Reverend Doctor Randy Crozsman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Chebogue Cemetery, Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be made to the Kings Historical Society or the James Clifford Healy Scholarship Fund, Mount Allison University.
