With saddened hearts, we regret to announce the passing of our dear mother, Shirley MacKenzie. Mom peacefully passed away with her loving family at her side after a lengthy battle with her illness on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, and a longtime resident of Park Street, she was the daughter of the late Neil and Laura (Summerell) MacDonald. Shirley loved life and will be sadly missed by her loving family.
Shirley is survived by her son, Robbie (Rosanne) MacKenzie; daughter, Cathy (D.A.) Wells; five cherished grandchildren, Kelli, Candice, Daniel, Colin and Shannon and three great-grandchildren, Kaileigh, London, Samantha, who all loved her dearly. She will also be missed by her four sisters, Gladys Henry, Mary Camus, Barbara (John) Cameron and Laura Dyke. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews that she loved.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert ‘Whiskers’ MacKenzie and her brother, Tommy MacDonald.
In honoring Shirley’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 23, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay at a later date.
