With sadness we announce the passing of J. Warren Young at home in Whitney Pier on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011.
Born Aug. 12, 1941, Warren was the son of the late Ben and Florence (Warren) Young, South Bar.
Warren graduated from Sydney Academy, worked for the Nova Scotia Government in Halifax, and received a certificate in public administration from Dalhousie University in 1979. Moving to Alberta, Warren worked for the government of Alberta Education as a field worker until his retirement in 2006. He returned to Cape Breton in February 2011 after living in Alberta for 30 years.
Warren is survived by his daughters, Lynn (Barry) Johns, Lower Sackville, Donna (Nick) Bramley, Oakville, Ont., and Leslie Ann (Derrick) Dempster, Hammonds Plains; son, Ben (Donna) Young, Hammonds Plains; stepson, Peter (Deanna) Arnold, Ottawa, Ont.; grandchildren, Brittany, Chris, Jazimar, Christian, Mia, Becca, Liam, Ryan and Breanna; sisters, Marilyn (David) MacLeod, Baddeck, Linda Young, Sydney and Susan (Mark) Biagi, Powell River, B.C.; and brother, David (Sylvia) Young, Whitney Pier. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Warren was predeceased by his second wife, Lois Whalen.
Memorial mass to celebrate the life of J. Warren Young will be held Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at 11 a.m. in Holy Redeemer Church with Fr. Dan MacInnis officiating. Light refreshments will be served following the service at Pier Community Funeral Home in the reception area. Interment will take place in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
Donations in memory of Warren may be made to the Holy Redeemer Building Fund.
