It is with sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear aunt and friend, Sheila Beattie, on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was a daughter of the late John Rorison and Alice (Winstanley) Beattie.
Sheila graduated from the Hamilton Memorial Hospital in 1951, and then worked as a Registered Nurse caring for her patients, with her kind and loving manner, at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital; which later became the Northside General Hospital, until her retirement.
She was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Sydney Mines, and was an active member of the Women Missionary Society. She was a member of the Retired Nurses Association and a former member of the Eastern Star and IODE.
Sheila is survived by her niece, Starr Donaldson of Edmonton, Alta; her nephew, Ian Donaldson of Saskatoon, Sask.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her sister, Mary Donaldson.
Visitation for Sheila Beattie will be 7-9 p.m. Monday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Marion Barclay-MacKay, officiating. Burial will follow in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Shore Road, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Kidney Foundation, or the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
