Roger Scott Martel

MARTEL, (ROGER) SCOTT - The passing of (Roger) Scott Martel of Gagetown, NB, occurred on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, NS. He was 43. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he is the son of Roger and Barbara (Gallup) Martel. A proud member of the RCAF, Scott served his country for 24 years, the last 3 as a Master Corporal in the Reserves. His dedication, loyalty and work ethic earned him the unequivocal respect of all at 403 Sqn. Scott was a member of the Nackawic Golf Club, a formidable Squash player and a valuable past member of several softball teams in Oromocto. His home run hitting skills and his team-building skills will be equally remembered. Besides his parents, Scott is survived by his wife, Helen Martel, Gagetown, NB, his in-laws Bernie and Carolyn Lapointe of Fredericton and Michael and Janice Collins of Essex, England, his wife's grandmother, Barbara Alward of Fredericton, sisters-in-law Amy (Gary) Elliott of Elmira, ON, Jane (Tony) Urquhart of Fredericton, Johanne (Michael) Wade of Nashua, NH, and Janine Lapointe of Fredericton, brothers-in-law Iain (Angie) Collins of Essex, England, Paul (Arlene) Collins of Yorkshire, England and Michael (Joanne) Lapointe of Fort McMurray, AB, as well as many aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins. He will be sadly missed by his beloved dog, Mojo, and his feline best friends Winston, Maggie and Stinker. Scott's quick wit, sense of humour and legendary tale-telling abilities were the cornerstone of any gathering of family and friends. His one-liners and love of word play invariably brought the company to tears of laughter, and for this gift we say "thank you". He will be desperately missed.
A memorial service will take place on Wednesday, September 28, at 2PM from St. Luke’s Chapel at CFB Gagetown with Padre Johnston officiating. The family will receive friends and visitors from 1PM until service time. For those who wish, memorial donations in Scott’s memory can be made to the Oromocto or Fredericton area SPCA’S. Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road has been entrusted with the arrangements. www.bishopsfuneralhome.com
