Sidney 'Sid' Denny

Born In: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Born: April 13th, 1922

Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 23rd, 2011

Sidney Francis ‘Sid’ Denny passed away peacefully, with family by his side, on Sept. 23, 2011, at Harbourstone Enhanced Care facility, at the age of 89 years.
Born in Glace Bay on April 13, 1922, he was raised by his grandparents, the late Jesse William and Sara Grace Denny.
In 1941, Sid left home at a young age to serve overseas in the Second World War with the Cape Breton Highlanders. In London, England, he met and married Joan Mary Rudd and their love for each other never wavered in their 66 years together. After the war, Sid and Joan settled in Truro, N.S. and later moved to Sydney in 1964. Sid enjoyed a long career in retail management and real estate before retiring in 1987.
Sid had many talents and hobbies. He was a scoutmaster, coached baseball and could build the best back yard rink in the neighborhood. If Sid couldn’t buy things for his children, he would build them. He enjoyed building things like boats, campers, furniture and especially, model airplanes. He was a member of the Cape Breton Modelers Club.
Sid will be remembered as a loving husband, dad and granddad, and will be greatly missed by his wife, Joan and their seven children, Nick (Deborah), Coxheath, Glenn (Judy), Sydney River, Gerry MacLeod (Alton), Marion Bridge, Brent (Edna), Sydney River, Kathy Forsey (Gary), Sydney River, Anita Matheson (John), Edmonton and special son, Gary, Sydney River; 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey Greer, Glace Bay and three nieces.
Sid instilled in his children and grandchildren a strong sense of family. Because of this, there is a close bond that always keeps our family connected, despite distances between us. A loving family is the legacy he would most want to be remembered for. One of many favourite memories was getting together at mom and dad’s house for our annual Father’s Day barbeques.
“Dad, we will miss you. You are in our hearts forever”.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Taigh Na Mara, Glace Bay and Harbourstone Enhanced Care facility for the wonderful care given to dad over the past three years.
A Celebration of Life and reception will take place Wednesday 7 p.m. at Sydney Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dana Feltmate officiating. Interment in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
If you choose, donations may be made to Horizon Achievement Centre or to a charity of one’s choice.
