TRENTON – Alfred Peter Lewis, 71, of Trenton, passed away unexpectedly at home on Sunday, September 25, 2011.
Born April 23, 1940 in New Glasgow, he was the son of the late Colin Lewis and Irene (Hogan) Lewis of Trenton.
Peter was easy going, soft spoken, and had a contagious laugh. He was active in curling, horseshoes, darts and loved a good game of cards. He was most happy when spending time at “the cottage” with his grandchildren. Peter was a long time member of the Trenton Fire Department having served for 33 years, three of which were served as acting Fire Chief. Peter truly enjoyed his time serving on the Fire Department and took his position seriously. He was a long time employee of Hawker Siddeley until retirement.
He is survived by his wife Myrna (Watters) Lewis, Trenton; daughters: Cynthia Lewis (Albert Rodee), Halifax; Sherry Kenney (Robert), Hornepayne, Ontario; Carolyn Lewis, Trenton; son, Bill (Bernice), Trenton; cousin and good friends, Jim Aikens and wife Margie Aikens. Peter “Papa” is also survived by his five grandchildren: Jordan and Jacob Kenney; Shea Rodee; Hannah and Madison Lewis.
He was predeceased by his parents, his aunt Kathleen (Kay) Lewis and his uncle William (Bill) Lewis.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, Trenton. Funeral service 11 a.m. Thursday in First United Church, Trenton with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in Heatherdale Memorial Gardens.
