Passed in: SYDNEY, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: September 25th, 2011

It is with great sadness that, we announce sudden passing of Dennis A. MacGillivary of Alexandra Street, Sydney, on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011.
The youngest child of the late Michael and Evelyn MacGillivary, Dennis was the baby brother to his three sisters, Geraldine (Earl) MacLeod, Joan Jessome and Iris (Gordie) Gillespie, all of Sydney.
Dennis enjoyed life to the fullest, and often stated he was blessed for being a father to Michael his best friend and caregiver, Carrol and Kurt. Dennis was very proud to be a grandfather and great-grandfather to Allyson, Andrew, Ashley, Erica, Michael, Danielle and Rene; the little girls, Theresa, Rachel and Marlee, you were always in his heart.
Predeceased by his first wife, Betty in 1975, love was gifted once more, to Bernadette ‘Beazer’, who passed away in 2002.
Enjoying life’s simple pleasures, a cup of tea, tarabish, playing guitar, a nascar race, was extended as an open door to many nieces, nephews and friends. Uncle Dennis was also like a second dad.
Prior to retirement, Dennis was employed with the Heavy Water Plant, Nuclear Power in Chalk River and LeBlanc’s Transfer in Sydney.
Dennis was an active member of the community, with Neighbourhood Watch, adviser with the mental health society, coordinator for Cardial Place, and volunteer of the year recipient with Loaves and Fishes. He was a regular contributor of letters to the editor, and former radio program, Talk Back.
Respecting Dad’s wishes, cremation has taken place, there will be no visitation. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
