"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you hope and a future." Jeremiah 29:11

Val was the daughter of Vic and Jeanie Gavin, who moved to Kamloops in 1953 just a few months after she was born in Vancouver, BC. She grew up in Kamloops and married her high school sweetheart Doug Hooge in 1973. With their two daughters, Jocelyn and Amanda, they moved to Regina in 1982 to pursue studies in preparation for Christian ministry overseas. Having served in Mannheim, Germany from 1991 - 2000, she returned with her husband to Kamloops where they have lived since.

Val continued to impact the lives of those in her family, church and neighborhood with her love and faith. She had a quick wit, welcoming spirit and people always felt at home around her. Her life was characterized by joy and generosity which spilled over into the lives around her.

She is greatly missed by her husband Doug, daughters Jocelyn Hooge and Amanda (Doug) Henke; grandchildren Emily & Isaac Vasquez; as well as her loving extended family and friends whom she cherished.

Val's Life will be Celebrated on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Kamloops Alliance Church, 233 Fortune Drive, Kamloops, BC.
