Harold Norman Lynge died in San Francisco, California on August 26, 2011. Harold was born on March 29, 1922, outside of Drinkwater on the family wheat farm. His parents, Lars Kristian and Amelia, immigrated to Canada from Denmark. After his early years in Drinkwater, Harold attended the University of Saskatchewan, later transferring to McGill University where he received his medical degree and then became a neurosurgeon after studies at the Mayo Clinic. His first wife, Patricia Govier of Manitoba, was a nurse trainee who he met at the Mayo Clinic. After practicing in Winnipeg for several years, Hal and Pat moved to San Jose, California in the 1950's. Hal practiced there until his retirement at age 70, serving a stint as chief of surgery at San Jose Hospital and teaching at the Stanford medical school. For many years he returned to Drinkwater to help his father with the wheat harvest. Hal and Pat had two sons, Dana and Eric, who they raised in Los Gatos, California. Pat died in 1976. Hal married his second wife, Amy Cole, in 1989. After his retirement, Hal and Amy split their years between San Francisco and their summer place near Sooke on Vancouver Island. He loved coastal living and particularly enjoyed foggy days. Hal is warmly remembered by friends and family for his love of music, his great sense of humor, his horsemanship, his unbridled determination and his steadfast friendship. He leaves behind his wife Amy, sister Marie Garrison of Prince Albert, sons Dana and Eric, step-sons Stuart, Richard and Brian Adler and seven grandchildren. In 2004, Hal endowed a scholarship fund at the McGill University School of Medicine. The family encourages any donations be made to "Dr. Harold N.
