With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Diane MacLean on Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Villa Nova, Dominion, Diane was the daughter of the late James and Sarah (Cody) Donovan.
In her early life, Diane was a hairdresser and nurses aide.
Diane’s greatest love was her family. Mom was a quiet gentle lady who loved everyone. She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening and spending time with mother nature and her own family.
Close friend and neighbour, Al Casagrade wrote an article containing the following excerpt: “Diane sits on her chair and looks over a book she has on birds.” He also commented on enjoying the tasty meals she prepared and the wonderful festive family holidays.
Diane is survived by her children, son, Blair, Toronto; daughter, Kelly (James) Odo, Kitchener; step-daughter, Denise Kemlia, Alberta, former spouses, Will MacLean, Dominion, Allan Steele, Sydney; sister, Barbara Donovan, Boston, brothers, John Donovan, Boston, Brian Donovan, Toronto, Danny Donovan, Virginia; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Diane was predeceased by her daughters, Sally Jeanette Steele and Kimberly Ann Steele, her sister, Ann Donovan and brother, Jimmy Donovan.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 30, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, with Fr. Dan Boudreau officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall.
Memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
