Johnny Comer, 52, of Bastable Street, Donkin, passed away Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital with his loving family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, Johnny was the son of the late Francis ‘Buller’ and Teresa (Moore) Comer.
Johnny was a lobster fisherman by trade. He loved his job and being in the open water. He was the most giving, loving person, who always put others first. Johnny had a great sense of humour and made many friends on his life journey; touching many lives. He spent years at the hockey rinks with his boys and was an avid Maple Leafs fan. His great faith inspired all who knew him. Johnny and Jean’s home was always open to everyone and their hospitality was amazing. He also enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and friends as well as spending time with his constant companion, his dog, ‘Hercules’.
Johnny is survived by the love of his life and best friend of 29 years, his wife, Jean (Treige) Comer and their two boys, Brian (Jennifer McSween) and Kyle; brothers, Gary (Della), Daryl, Greg (Carol), Chuck, Ronnie; sisters, Donna (Tony), Marguerite, Marilyn; many nieces, nephews and his best buddy, Philip Sampson.
Besides his parents, Johnny was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Lubie McMullin.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Norman MacPhee is Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Anthony’s Church, Glace Bay. Interment in St. Gregory’s Cemetery, Donkin, followed by a reception in the Donkin Fire Hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Johnny, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Red Cross or the QE II Hospital (Bone Marrow Transplant Unit), Halifax.
