Mary Ethel Sanders, age 86 of Autumn Crest Senior Citizens, New Glasgow, passed away September 28, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, with her family by her side.
Born in Black Brook, NS, she was a daughter of the late John Duncan and Edna Veronica (Woods) McLellan.
Mary had lived in BC for five years returning to New Glasgow 40 years ago. She was an employee of Zellers and later ran a Christian Book Store in New Glasgow. Mary had volunteered for many years with the Salvation Army. She was a former member of Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by daughter Patty (Ron) Tanner, Cranbrook, BC; son Norman (Bev) Leil, Ladysmith, BC; stepson Kenny Sanders, Dartmouth; brother Gerald (Dorothy) McLellan, Thorburn; sister-in-law Patsy McLellan, Sutherland’s River; 13 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband John Sanders, sons Donald Leil, John Leil, brothers Lester McLellan, Grant McLellan, sister Isabell Adamson, grandson Jimmie Leil, daughter-in-law Margaret Sanders.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 1, in Sutherland’s River Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Burial will be in Telford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mary may be made to Palliative Care In Patient Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital.
