With sorrow, we announce the passing of Shirley Ann Crewe, loving wife and mother, grandmother and sister, on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at home.
Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (MacCormick) Robinson. Shirley was a graduate of Cape Breton Business College, and for a time worked in Halifax.
Upon the birth of her children, she became a stay at home mom and enjoyed raising them, and was active in all organizations they were involved in. She was past president of the North Sydney Kinette Club. Always busy, she enjoyed sewing, ceramics, toll painting, quilting, later returning to work for Jack and Betty Hatcher, where she managed seven Tim Horton outlets, retiring after the children completed their post-secondary education.
When her mother became ill, Shirley spent seven years as her caregiver. Throughout, Shirley enjoyed camping and travelling with her trailer. The last number of years being spent at Driftwood Campground, swimming daily and singing at campfires with her many friends.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Gerald; her children, Gerald (Geralynn), Bowmanville, Ont., Diane (Paul) MacIntyre, Whitby, Ont., Jeff (Monica), Mississauga, Ont., Troy (Geraldine), Toronto, Ont., and her 10 grandchildren; her sisters, Betty MacDonald, Dominion and Tammy Robinson, Sydney.
We wish to thank Dr. Coish and Dr. Ghenia for their care shown to Shirley. Thank you to Susan MacKenzie and palliative care for all your assistance and also to the VON for your visits.
A beautiful, loving, caring person, Shirley will be remembered fondly by her many friends and remain always in the hearts of her loved ones.
There will be no visitation by request, cremation has taken place. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Anglican Church, North Sydney with Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
