Leonard Lewis Hughes
BIBLE HILL - Hughes, Leonard Lewis, 79, Bible Hill, passed away Oct. 17, 2009, in the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Wentworth, he was the son of the late Leonard Benjamin and Lettie (Hiltz) Hughes and step-son of the late Greta Hamilton.
Lewis was a tradesman for most of his working life.
He was a co-owner of Hughes and Crowell Carpeting for a number of years and worked as a carpenter with Fowler Construction. He was later employed as a maintenance carpenter at the Best Western Glengarry, from where he retired in 1995.
Lewis is survived by his wife, Reta Adeline (Starratt), who he had been married to for 38 years this past August.
He is also survived by daughters, Debbie Hughes and Donna Hughes of Ontario and Shelley Hughes of Truro; step-daughters, Pat Ramsay (Jim); Rose DeCoste; Kathy Murphy (Eugene); step-sons, Michael DeCoste (Bonnie); Bernard DeCoste (Rosemary); Kenny DeCoste (Janet); all from Truro or surrounding areas; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Hiltz, Chester Basin; Muriel Hughes, Halifax; Florence Gamble, Debert; Bernice Hughes, Halifax; brother-in-law, Russell Jennings, Belmont; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife, June (Pearson); sister, Marion Jennings.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21st at 9:30 a.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro, with Rev. Lori Ramsey officiating.
Visitation will follow the service. Interment at a later date.
Family flowers only.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or a charity of choice.
