It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leona MacIntyre, age 53, of Glace Bay. Leona passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 at the Glace Bay Hospital, surrounded by her loving family and friends.
Born in Sydney Mines, Leona was the daughter of the late Norman ‘Diddy’ and Eva (Boutilier) MacIntyre. She was a former fish plant worker in Louisbourg. She loved to cook for family and friends. She loved to dance and listen to country and western music. She had a great sense of humour. Leona loved and collected dolphins. She was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She will be sadly missed by her loving companion, Richard ‘Jake’ Rohrbach; son, Cory; stepdaughter, Lorraine (Charlie) Janes, brothers, Tommy (Thelma), Ronnie (Lorna), Melvin (Laurena), Ricky, sisters, Isabene (Vinnie Legatto), Margaret Boulter, Lesina (Alex Edwards), Mary Gardiner, Lillian Bailey, Geraldine (Wayne Devoe), cherished grandchildren, Breea, Tanya, Nicole and four great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Katherine ‘Kay’ Fiander, Naomi Young, Philip MacIntyre, Daniel MacIntyre, Helene MacIntyre.
Visitation for Leona MacIntyre will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2011 at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, Glace Bay with Rev. Shirley Murdock officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
