Gladys Cork passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2011 at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops at the age of 93. Gladys was born on December 30, 1917 in Swinton, England to George and Ethel Dixon.

Gladys met Arthur Cork at a dance during the war years and they were married on March 24, 1945 at St. Peters Church in Swinton. They were married for 43 years before Arthur died in 1988.

Gladys came to Canada as a War Bride arriving on September 4th, 1946 in Halifax on the Cunard White Star line aboard the Aquitania. She crossed Canada by train to join her new husband Arthur in Harrison Hot Springs where they made their first home.

In 1950 they moved to Kamloops and built their home at 2521 Tranquille. The Corks were well known for their apple orchards on the North Shore where they had many regular customers. Gladys would polish the apples with her apron before they were sold.

She loved to bake, garden and can preserves. She was very devoted to knitting small dolls for children at the Hospital. She loved to have family and friends come to visit from near and far.

Gladys and Arthur loved to travel and made many trips overseas to visit her mother Ethel, her sister Joyce and her niece Annette. Gladys told many stories of their trips to Scotland and Wales.

Gladys lived at Berwick on the Park for the last 5 five years of her life and has many friends there who will remember her fondly.

Gladys is survived by her sister Joyce Platt and her niece Annette Elliott (UK); her niece Sheila McDonald (Cranbrook) and her niece, Sharon Miller (Victoria).

She will be missed by her family and close friends in Kamloops particularly Mildred Trussler and her daughter Marguerite; Ruth and Rick Swarbrick, and Vi & Pete Pernul.

We would like to thank the staff of the Royal Inland Hospital and the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kamloops Hospice Association are appreciated. Call 250-372-1336 for details on donations.

A Memorial Service will be held for Gladys in the chapel at Berwick on the Park on October 27th, 2011 at 3:00 p.m.
