
Donald Alphonsus Bowie
Donald Alphonsus Bowie, 70 of Abercrombie, passed away September 29, 2011 at his home.
Born in Tracadie, Antigonish County, he was a son of the late Henry and Gertrude (McKeough) Bowie.
Donald grew up in Merland, Antigonish County and was a resident of Abercrombie for more than 40 years. He started his career in welding with the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers, later going on to work as a welder and maintenance supervisor at the former Scott Maritimes for some 26 years. After retiring from Scott Maritimes in 1994, Donnie returned to the Boilermakers until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 34 New Glasgow. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and travelling, particularly long drives and walking with his special friend, his dog Nikki.
He is survived by his daughters, Marlene (David) Campbell, Moncton; Jacinta (David) Wornell, New Glasgow; his grandchildren: Evan, Jaime and Ella Campbell, Moncton; Sophia Wornell, New Glasgow; sisters: Louise Boyle, Afton; Shirley Shortt, Halifax; Jean Boyle, Afton; brothers, Jim Bowie: Halifax; Mike Bowie, Afton; Elmer Bowie, Merland; brothers-in-law, Buddy Boyle and George Shortt, and special mention to his best friend and travel companion Helen Chapman.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Monday from Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Stellarton, with Father Peter MacDonald presiding. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Burial will take place in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Tracadie.
Donations in memory of Donald may be made to the Pictou County SPCA.
