DURHAM – Henrietta “Hettie” Van’t Veld, 53, Durham, passed away peacefully, Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by her family.
Born in New Glasgow, she was a daughter of Theodora “Dora” (Smees) Harbers, Pictou and the late Johan Harbers. She was employed with her husband, Barend, as Office Administrator in the family business, Van Veld Construction Ltd. Hettie was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn. Sewing, knitting, quilting and crocheting were some of Hettie’s favourite activities. Her greatest loves were her husband, children and grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Barend; daughter, Cheryl Van’t Veld (Derek MacDonald) and her son, Dawson, Durham; son, Brian (Jill) Van’t Veld, and their children, Mary Jo, Evan and Will, Green Hill; sisters, Johanna (William) Dykstra, Scotsburn; Rika (Bruce) MacDonald, Hardwood Hill; father and mother-in-law, Hank and Hendrika Van`t Veld, Greenhill; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn with Rev. Lara Scholey officiating. Interment will be in Bethel Cemetery.
