SMITH - Ruth Joyce Smith, age 74 yrs. of Swift Current, SK passed away September 21, 2011 at the Cypress Regional Hospital. The funeral service was held at the First United Church, with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood and Shirley Wilson officiating. The eulogist was Margaret Trytten, the ushers were Gerry Rea and Kay Blydo. The soloist was Pat Smith and the organist was Arlie Neufeld. The pallbearers were: Roy Hildebrand, Carl Hildebrand, Keith Bloye, Bill Blydo, Ray Moffit and Gregory Warren. An Honor Guard was formed by Past Grand Matrons of the Eastern Star. The interment service took place at the Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. She is survived by her brother-in-law Art King and Nephew Charles King plus numerous cousins and their families. She was predeceased by her parents: Albert C. Smith (1965) and Vermillia Smith (1995), a sister Elsie King and a nephew Douglas King. Joyce was born in the Rush Lake District, SK on October 21, 1936. She attended school in Rush Lake and Beatty Collegiate in Swift Current. Joyce was employed by the P.F.R.A. as a stenographer for 37 years, retiring in 1995. She was active with the Eastern Star and in 2004 became a member of the Daughters of the Nile - a Fraternal organization comprised of women through out Canada and the United States. She was a member of the First United Church where she served on many committees. She enjoyed sports - participated in the curling bonspiels with the P.F.R.A. and she attended many of the Bronco Hockey games. In her memory memorial donations to the Heart and Stoke Foundation, The Saskatchewan Parkinson's Disease Foundation or The Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated by the family.
