James Herman Simms, 78, of Doucetteville, passed away Sept. 24, 2011, in Digby General Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, N.S., he was a son of the late Ruby Simms. Jim spent his last 15 working years driving taxi for Basin Taxi and retired when he was 65. He will be remembered for his musical talent and his passion for guitar and Hank Snow songs. Jim will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary (McGowan); sons, Tim, Digby; Bryan (Tawnya Crossman), Grande Cache, Alta.; stepson Alex Vizino, Cold Lake, Alta.; daughters, Kathy, Cheryl (Richard Gaudet), and Colleen (Kevin George), all of Digby; stepdaughter, CJ (Bob) Prest, Truro; grandchildren, James Smiley, Nicole Smiley, Jeremy Simms, Rachael Simms, James Simms; and several great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held Sept. 27 in St. Patrick’s Church, Digby. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and to Digby General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary palliative care pain pump fund.
