GREENWOOD – Edmund David “Eddie” Stewart, 82, Greenwood, passed away peacefully, Sunday, October 2, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Greenwood, he was a son of the late David Edmund and Margaret Louise (Ferguson) Stewart.
Ed was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn. He formed E.D. Stewart Well Drilling Ltd. in 1950 and operated the company for over 50 years. He was a founding member and past president of the Nova Scotia Well Drillers Association and inducted as a lifetime member of the Nova Scotia Ground Water Association. Ed was a Past Noble Grand of Moore Lodge No. 17, I.O.O.F. and Past Master of Hudson Lodge, No. 77, A.F. & A.M., Thorburn. He enjoyed fishing at Eden Lake, time at the cottage at The Ponds, hunting, traveling and the outdoors. Ed was also a licensed private pilot and could be found flying in one of his planes. He was very outgoing and enjoyed helping others most of all. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Eleanor Lillian (Robson); children, David, Greenwood; Grace (David) Hatton, Holden, Mass.; Allan, Greenwood; Karen Stewart (Philip Murray), Marilyn, Greenwood; grandchildren: Samuel, Anna, Emma and Timothy Hatton, Holden; brothers, Frank (Mildred) Stewart, Pictou; Rev. Lloyd (Myrna) Stewart, Shag Harbour; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother, Ralph in infancy.
The family will receive visitors 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jeff Lackie officiating. Interment will be in Thorburn Cemetery.
Donations may be made in his memory to Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn or any charity of choice.
Hudson Lodge No. 77 Masonic service will be held 6:30 p.m. and Moore Lodge No. 17, I.O.O.F. service will be held 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
