Cornell, Gladys “Audrey” - 85, Truro
Audrey passed away peacefully and with dignity on October, 2, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro surrounded by friends. Born February 7, 1926 in Montreal, she was a daughter of the late Irving and Gladys (Crawford) Cornell. Audrey attended the Gaelic College in Cape Breton and received her Bachelor of Science from Mount Allison University. She then furthered her education at the Normal College in Truro. Audrey was a high school Science teacher, teaching in many different schools, including Middle Musquodoboit, Brookfield and Truro and was a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Colchester East Hants Rotary Club. In her younger years, Audrey loved to travel and visited many different countries including Australia, Bangkok, Singapore, Malaysia, Tokyo and the Philippines. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and being part of the choir at First United Church. Audrey was previously an active member of the Air Force Club. She spent many holidays celebrating with Peter and Marg Stewart, their children and their families over the years. Audrey was predeceased by her mother and father and she was the last surviving member of her family. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 11th at 3 p.m. in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating. A reception will follow. Private burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses, Truro Division.
