It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Levina Mary ‘Mae’ MacInnis, age 71, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011, at the Northside Community Guest Home, where she had resided the past three years.
Born in Sydney Mines, Mae was the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Bonnar) Vickers.
She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Bras d’Or.
Mae worked in various hospitals such as St. Elizabeth Hospital, North Sydney, Harbourview Hospital, Sydney Mines and Pembroke Hospital in Ontario. She also worked as a nurse’s aide in the Chatham Nursing Home, in New Brunswick and volunteered in the community as a Brownie leader.
Mae is survived by her husband, Thomas MacInnis, Georges River; and her three sons, Lloyd, Calgary, Ronald, Saskatoon, Farrell (Betty), Melbourne, Ont.; and two daughters, Karen (Jim) and Sherry, both of Strathroy, Ont., her 10 grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Stephen, Candace, Reese, Ryan, Sean, Connaire, all of Ontario, and Samantha and Kayla, Calgary. Mae is also survived by her four sisters, Jessie (Louis) MacKinnon, Pembroke, Ann (Brian) Ferguson, Charlottetown, Lorraine (Moody) Finlayson, Vivian (Joe) Cordeau, both of Sydney Mines; and one brother, Dev (Joan) Vickers, Millville; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mae was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Rose MacInnis, her brothers, Edgar, Russell, Agustus and Ferdinand and sisters, Jean, Catherine, Loretta and Willena.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A funeral mass for Mae will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or, with Rev. Peter McLeod officiating. A private family burial to take place at a later date in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bras d’Or.
Arrangements are under the direction of W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney.
Memorial donations can be made to the Northside Community Guest Home “Theresa Terrace” or a charity of choice.
