It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Brittany Chant, 14, of Sydney Mines, on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the I.W.K. in Halifax.
Born in North Sydney on Feb. 17, 1997, she was the daughter of Rose Mary Powers and stepfather, Jason MacDonald. She was a member of Trinity Anglican Church, Sydney Mines.
Brittany was a student at T.L. Sullivan School in Florence. She loved to draw, enjoyed playing basketball, was a very active volunteer and also delivered the Cape Breton Post.
Brittany will be sadly missed by her parents, Rose Mary Powers and Jason MacDonald; sister, Sommer and cousin, Emma, who she loved dearly. Also left to mourn is her grandmother Ann Marie Powers, Sydney Mines. stepgrandmother, Donna MacDonald, Florence; paternal grandparents, Edwin and Thelma Chant, North Sydney; uncles, Michael Powers and Daniel (Jennifer) Powers; aunts, Mary Ann Wilcox, Marg Robertson, Olive Chant, Lori Davis and Tracey Bonnar, uncle Kevin MacDonald, and her father, Roland Chant.
She was predeceased by her grandfather, Daniel Powers and her stepgrandfather, Eddie MacDonald.
Visitation for Brittany Chant will be held in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines today (Friday), Oct. 7, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A celebration of her life will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, Queen Street, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. The burial will be in Trinity Cemetery, Tobin Road, Sydney Mines. A reception will take place in Grandy Hall, after the burial.
