It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Ian Wilson, age 68, of Glace Bay. Ian passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late John Murray and Helen (Yates) Wilson and was a member of Knox United Church, Glace Bay.
Ian was employed with Devco on the railroad, retiring in 1995 and also at Coca Cola.
He was manager of the Olands Baye Boys baseball team in the early 70s. Ian was an avid sports fan, was fun loving, friendly and had a dry sense of humour, often saying he grew the best tomatoes on his street.
Ian will be sadly missed by his stepsons, Larry MacKenzie, Truro, Owen (Adele) MacKenzie, Glace Bay; brothers, George (Annette), Toronto, David, Glace Bay, John (Danielle), Elmsdale, Jimmie (Carolann), St. Peter’s; sisters, Katherine Francis, MacDougall Settlement, N.B., Mora Wilson, Antigonish, Diane (Leonard) Parsons, Mary Beth (Charlie) Reid, both of Glace Bay; brother-in-law, Earl (Gladys) Melanson, Milton, Ont. Ian is also survived by his grandchildren, nieces, nephews and two special nieces, Ashley and Michelle Parsons.
Ian was predeceased by his wife, Mildred Wilson (March 28, 2011), sister, Jean Knowles, Glace Bay, brother-in-law, Frank Francis.
In honouring Ian’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Visitation will be held Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, 2011, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Duncan Roach officiating. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery, Louisbourg.
