It is with great sorrow that we, the family, announce the passing of Kathleen 'Kay' Stanford, 55, of New Waterford on Oct. 7, 2011 at New Waterford Hospital following a short battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Bernard and Grace (LeBlanc) Cummings.
Kay was a member of the former St. Agnes parish, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. Her pride and joy was her son, J.B., and her siblings. Known for her friendly smile and kind heart, she was shy but non-judgemental and saw the good in everyone. Kay's presence helped brighten the days of those around her. She will truly be missed by all.
Surviving are her son, John Bernard 'J.B.', Sydney; brother Michael 'Bobby' Cummings, New Waterford; sister Bernadette 'Etta' (Doug) Fraser, New Waterford; half brother Johnny (Vivian) McDonald, Florida; half sisters Viola (Winston) Timmons, Dominion, Gina (Ed) Smolenski, Lingan, Annie (Martin) Odo, New Waterford; sadly missed by nieces and nephews, with special mention to the twins Wenda and Wanda.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John Alex; brother Russell; half brother William ‘Billy’ Rigby, and half sister Joan Summerton.
Visitation will be held Monday Oct. 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Kay will take place Tuesday, Oct. 11th at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave., with Father Victor Ozoufuanya officiating.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Abilities Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
