MOUNT WILLIAM – Willemina Helena van de Pol, 54, passed away Tuesday, October 20th, 2009, in the Aberdeen Hospital after a lengthy battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Glengarry Station, Pictou County, Wilma was a daughter of Tilly Meyer and the late Gysbertus Meyer.
When she was young, Wilma moved with her family to the Netherlands where she met her husband, Albert van de Pol. In 1976 she moved back to Canada with Albert where they started their family on their farm on the Mount William road.
Wilma is survived by her loving husband, Albert van de Pol, Mount William; daughters:, Brenda (Stephen) Crozier, Ottawa; Theresa van de Pol, Mount William; Cristal van de Pol, Dartmouth; grandsons, Andrew and William Crozier, Ottawa; sisters: Maria (Hank) Veenhuis, Union Centre; Tilly (Don) Meyer, Lacombe, Alberta; Gerda (Rijk) Boon, Netherlands; and brothers, Bill (Carol) Meyer, Bridgeville; John (Bahy) Meyer, Ottawa; Bert (Heidie) Meyer, Springville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father, Gysbertus Meyer, and her sister Rev. Trudy Meyer.
Wilma was an active member of First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, having served as Youth Group leader, choir member and Sunday School co-ordinator during her time there. Wilma was also a presence at the local flea market and weekly auctions, both of which she enjoyed immensely. Wilma’s later life was dedicated to cultivating the family business of antiques and storage, which has grown to be a success under her diligent care.
Visitation 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday in the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow. Funeral service 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson and Rev. Don Shephard officiating. Reception to follow. Burial will be in Mount William Cemetery.
