NELSON, Catherine Loreen – Daughter of the late Frank Willis and Gertrude (Davis) Brenton, went to her home in heaven on her 88th birthday. Catherine left her earthly life in total peace on October 21, 2009. She was a very caring and loving sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Catherine lived the majority of her life in Truro and was a member of First United Church, Truro. She was active in Unit “A” of United Church Women and was the Unit Treasurer for over 20 years. Catherine is survived by her sister, Helen Grant, Dartmouth; son, David Elwyn (Joyce Arsenault), Hilden; daughter, Dianne Leslie (Alan) Ardern, Tatamagouche; grandchildren, Melanie Soliday (Fiance, Zachary Huber), Gettysburg, PA; Christopher “Iain” (Rachelle) Vergie, Kemptville, ON; Danielle (David) Armor, Biglerville, PA; Joanne (Kevin) Lake, Cheverie; Andrew Ardern and Alisha Ardern, Tatamagouche; great grandchildren, Richard “Ricky” McFarlane, Michael Jr. and Benjamin Soliday, Laura Lake, Hailey Armor, Lochlan and Shayna Vergie. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Elwyn Nelson; sister, Dorothy Allan. Special thanks to Dr. Trevor Locke for his compassionate and understanding care and also to Reverend David and Nancy MacNaughton for the many meaningful visits. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Catherine’s family will receive friends from 7-9 pm Friday, October 23, 2009, and where the funeral service will be held 1 pm, Saturday, October 24, 2009, Reverend John Donkin officiating.
