It is with great sadness and deepest regret that we the family announce the sudden passing of John Walter Toomey, age 33, of Foundry Street, Glace Bay.
Born in Glace Bay, J.W. was the son of Gerald ‘Bumper’ and the late Donna (Walsh) Toomey and was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay.
John was an active member of his community, in earlier years he volunteered his time with St. John’s Ambulance and more recently with the Tower Road Fire Department. John worked with D&D Transfer Services and was currently employed with Securitas Security.
J.W. will be sadly missed by his father, Gerald ‘Bumper’ Toomey; son, Brian “Little Buddy” Toomey; brother, Lorne (Florence) Toomey; and special niece Gabrielle, all of Glace Bay. Also mourning John’s passing are his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
John was predeceased by his mother Donna (Walsh) Toomey and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
In honoring John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-2:30 p.m. with a funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Fr. Leo Boone will be officiating. Interment will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
The family requests no flowers please. Donations in John’s memory may be made to St. John’s Ambulance.
