McLEOD, John Alexander - 63, of Kentville, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born and raised in Pembroke, Ontario, he was the son of the late Donald and Doris (Rankin) McLeod. John served in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring after 26 years. He was then employed as a motor coach operator with Nova Tours, Acadian Lines and Kings Transit. He was also employed with Kent Building Supplies and more recently in the Accommodations Unit of Camp Aldershot. John loved being a Grampie. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed time at the cottage, playing cards, and driving his motorcycle. He was an active member at Bethany Memorial Baptist Church. He loved to sing and was a member of the Dukes of Kent Barbershop Harmony Society and the church choir. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Thelma (Estabrooks); daughters, Heather (Richard) Bundy, Dartmouth and Crystal McLeod, Mt. Uniacke; beloved grandchildren, Simone, Joshua and Cherelle; brothers, Stanley (Diane), Douglas (Helen) and Gordon; sisters, Peggy (Jack) Stock, Rhonda (Evan) Smith, Karen and Kathy McLeod, Lorraine (Ron) Buick and Patricia Norquay; sister-in-law, Mona Estabrooks. He was predeceased by a brother, Scott McLeod. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 11, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2011 in Bethany Memorial Baptist Church, Aldershot, Reverend Murray Shaw, Reverend Darren Millett and Reverend Doctor Peter Lohnes officiating. It was John’s wish that donations be made to Bethany Memorial Baptist Church or the charity of your choice. The family extends sincere appreciation to the doctors and the nursing staff of the Valley Regional Hospital and to everyone who provided such wonderful support.
